A fantastic, fun day out for explorers of all ages.
Our professional guides and drivers lead this jeep convoy expedition
off the beaten track to discover real Turkish traditions, fabulous
scenery and archaeological treasures all in one day. Join us as a
driver or non-driver.
Stop 1 : See an
important part of Turkish life first hand at a local
mosque.
Stop 2 : The ancient city of
Tlos is built on the slopes of a steep hill, from which there are
amazing views of the surrounding countryside. We stop briefly at the
foot of the hill to take photos whilst our guide briefly explains
the history of ruins, which include a castle, Lycian rock tombs and
a theatre. (The climb to Tlos is very challenging, so entry is not a
part of our tour).
Stop 3 : It's time for a
cold drink in the idyllic forest surroundings of the trout farm,
where the peace is disturbed only by the sound of rushing water.
Stop 4: See the great Turkish art of
carpet and kilim-making at a traditional handicraft centre, and
experience another custom: tea on the house! Stop 5 : Saklikent Canyon is the perfect place
to cool off. After a delicious al fresco lunch, there's time to
relax in the shade of leafy groves by the waterside, or cross the
river to walk into the gorge, which is 18km long and 300m deep in
some places, and has been eroded over thousands of years by rushing
glacial waters. Stop 6 : Joining in
the mud-fight at the mud baths is not compulsory, but it is great
fun to make sure the guides and drivers get stuck in too! A quick
swim in the river will invigorate you before the safari continues
(seasonal).
Stop 7 : Explore the ruins
of Xanthos, which was the Lycians' political capital, whilst our
guide explains the fascinating, sometimes gruesome, history of the
once great city. Stop 8 : Patara is the
longest beach on Turkey's coast - a wide seashore of white sand as
far as the eye can see, lapped by shallow sea. It's also pretty much
deserted, so is a perfect place to relax and swim before heading
back towards Fethiye. Stop 9 : Driving
through traditional villages, we stop for a last swim in a pool, and
to hose the jeeps down, before arriving back in the resort feeling
truly exhilarated, though perhaps a little dusty and weary, after a
day of light-hearted fun and real adventure.
